Aviation Carbon ( www.aviationcarbon.aero ), the longest-running international conference focused on aviation sustainability and decarbonization, returns on 25-26 November at the London Heathrow Marriott. It will welcome over 400 delegates from over 70 countries, with over 100 airlines and aircraft operators represented.
The event comes at an important time for the aviation sector, with new regulations concerning sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) coming into force in the EU and UK from January that have huge implications for all airlines and jet fuel producers using Europe’s airports. In addition, also from January, airlines flying within the EU will have to monitor and report their non-CO2 as well as CO2 emissions. Airlines, business jet and cargo aircraft operators attending Aviation Carbon 2024 will hear guidance from experts during the conference on the complex compliance issues arising from these new regulations.
Aviation Carbon 2024 also closely follows this year’s COP29 UN climate change meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, where decisions may be taken affecting emissions units eligible under ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). As the sector approaches the scheme’s mandatory stage, all airlines will need to navigate the carbon market for these units and better understand the cost and regulatory implications.
Departments responsible for policy, finance, operations, fuel, legal, regulatory, ESG and sustainability have long recognized Aviation Carbon as a must-attend event.
With some 60 international speakers, key agenda topics at Aviation Carbon 2024 will cover progress towards the sector’s Net Zero emissions by 2050 target; contrail avoidance; policy updates on the EU and UK Emissions Trading Systems, ReFuelEU Aviation and Non-CO2 Monitoring, Reporting & Verification (MRV); SAF book & claim; carbon removals; novel fuel technologies; global SAF production; carbon markets; regulatory compliance; sustainability-linked aircraft finance; carbon markets; SAF pricing; and sustainable aviation technology investment and finance.
Deep-dive breakout sessions will provide in-depth coverage of Carbon Removals, Non-CO2 MRV, Regulatory Compliance and Carbon Markets. The Carbon Removals deep-dive is being held in association with British Airways.
IATA’s Senior Vice President Sustainability and Chief Economist, Marie Owens Thomsen, will discuss the airline industry’s performance over the past year, as well as IATA’s sustainability initiatives and industry leadership it is providing, in a 'fireside chat' with Aviation Carbon organiser and GreenAir News Editor Christopher Surgenor.
“Aviation Carbon has evolved into a premier global networking platform for sustainability professionals in the aviation industry and beyond seeking to mitigate the sector’s climate impact problem,” said Surgenor in a recent interview. “The event brings an international community together to exchange knowledge, learn about complex issues, explore innovative solutions and build valuable connections.
“Coming at a pivotal time, Aviation Carbon 2024 will deliver crucial updates on latest policies and help prepare attendees stay ahead in implementing Net Zero strategies, alongside their efforts with SAF adoption and emissions regulatory compliance.”
A networking evening reception will conclude Day One of the conference, kindly sponsored by the event’s Platinum Sponsor, Vitol.

About Aviation Carbon
Aviation Carbon Events Ltd (ACE) is an independent organizer of professional, international business conferences focusing on measures to address aviation’s impact on the environment and climate change.
Its first conference in 2012 brought the airline and business jet sectors together with the carbon markets and regulatory authorities at the time of the introduction of aviation into the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). Since then, the international agreement on the CORSIA global carbon offsetting scheme for international aviation has provided an important new focus and impetus, as has the acceleration in the growth of sustainable aviation fuels and the establishment of the Net Zero emissions by 2050 target by industry and ICAO.
The leadership team of ACE has an extensive background in the aviation industry, each Director having at least 25 years’ experience.
