Canada-based precision engineering company MSB will showcase the newly developed prototype of an electric, dual pedestal Hi-Lo dining table on Booth 1247 at this year's NBAA-BACE, Orlando 1 - 3 November 2016.  The table's development follows an increase in demand from a growing number of completion centers for large dining tables, which are easy to stow, for large cabin aircraft.

The new table incorporates two telescopic pedestal stands that are driven by an electric motor. It can be raised and lowered with Bluetooth technology from anywhere in the cabin and be used as either an elegant dining table, or casual coffee table. This is the first time that MSB has produced this type of table, and perfectly demonstrates the skills of the precision engineering team. "The challenge is ensuring that the pedestals rise and lower together, with complete synchronicity.  Just a fraction out and the surface will not be level," explains Shannon Gill, Business Development Director for MSB.  To ensure the table's synchronicity MSB developed a system where the two pedestals "talk" to each other so they move up and down at the same time.

MSB initially developed the dual pedestal as a proof of concept following a request from Comlux America for a four-pedestal table that can seat up to eight passengers. "It is the kind of project that our engineers really throw themselves into. In the process of creating a new product for our customer we have also created a new offering for the wider interiors market," says Gill.

The bespoke four-pedestal table for Comlux is on schedule and on budget to be delivered in the first quarter of 2017 for an A330 aircraft, having taken just eight months to develop.  Scott Meyer, CEO of Comlux America adds, "We are extremely pleased with the way in which MSB approached the project up to this point. They have applied a novel design engineering process to create an advanced product in line with the requirements of our state-of-the-art cabin interior. Working with the MSB team has been a pleasure and we look forward to seeing the finished product."

Gill anticipates that NBAA will bring further orders for the new offering with OEMs, completion centers and cabin interior designers already showing interest. "We know that our team of engineers, will have considered, analyzed and revised continually to create a superior product. I'm excited to see what the NBAA visitors think."
