MAC Air Group, the Portland, Maine, family owned and operated aviation services company took a step forward in the development of its first Fixed Base Operation (FBO) on June 15th as it broke ground at Portland International Jetport. The new 43,000 sq. ft. facility - of which 30,000 sq. ft. will be dedicated to hangar space - represents an investment of approximately $6 million USD. It will serve the growing demand from an expanding international and domestic business aviation client base. Completion is scheduled for January 2016. MAC Air Group will be promoting the new FBO at booth #116 during the National Business Aviation Association's Regional Forum at Landmark Aviation at Teterboro Airport (TEB) on June 25th.

The 13,000 sq. ft. FBO will comprise two levels with the first floor incorporating first class crew and passenger facilities.  The second floor will be dedicated to office space including MAC Air Group's corporate headquarters. Crew will benefit from a crew lounge and quiet room, flight planning resources, shower facilities and fitness room. Passenger facilities will include a luxurious customer lounge, executive conference amenities, gourmet catering service and front desk reception area. Keen to emphasize its longevity, MAC Air Group will be decorating the interior with photographs that demonstrate the company's 56-year aviation history showcasing its continued commitment to its clients.

The full service FBO will offer JetA and 100LL fuel (100LL will be full service and have a self-service station). MAC Air Group staff will manage the facility to provide quick turnaround refueling; ramp services; aircraft hangar space; lavatory services; GPUs; catering; courtesy cars; rental cars; and an attentive concierge service to assist with accommodation requests and local recommendations.  MAC Air Group will also continue to offer maintenance services through its experienced maintenance division.

It is anticipated that construction of the facility will generate about 15 permanent jobs, which will be created to run the operation. A local Portland architect has designed the new facility and the project is under the direction of Scarborough, Maine-based, Landry/French Construction Company. The building is being manufactured with the high performance, prefabricated steel building system, Murox. The company wanted a thoroughly modern offering that was designed with the customers at heart, and that could meet the needs of clients now, and in years to come. MAC Air Group aims to mirror the range of excellent services provided by some of the large international FBO chains but without losing the personal touch and local flavor its customers have come to enjoy.

"This month's ground breaking represents a major milestone for MAC Air Group as it expands its presence at Portland," said Allyn Caruso, President MAC Air Group. "We have developed a thriving and robust business that continues to grow. As a long-standing, independent family-run business, we will be building on our reputation of delivering excellent customer service to our clients. We look forward to creating a first class FBO for international and domestic VIP business aviation customers. We are very proud to strengthen our ties with Portland International Jetport and look forward to the FBO completion."
