The British Business and General Aviation Association (BBGA) has honoured Paul Cremer as recipient of its Contribution to Industry Award 2025, recognising his 43 years’ continuous experience in general and business aviation.
Handing over the award at The Little Ship Club in London in front of 140-plus industry peers, BBGA Chair Aoife O’Sullivan said she was delighted to be presenting this to Paul, a hugely popular figure, who continues to give back to the industry. “There isn’t an aviation discipline he hasn’t been involved in and very few people in bizav he doesn’t know.”
Paul has worked in Air Traffic, Operations, Aircraft Management, Air Ambulance, Ground Ops, CAMO, Charter Sales, MCC Co-ordination, Aviation Software and Contract Management. His current role is Head of Aviation Delivery for the Gama Aviation Group – a company he has loyally served for nearly 29 years.
Several BBGA colleagues remember his cheery, helpful demeanour in his early career in the early 80s when he started out at Fairoaks Airport, Surrey, as ground crew, progressing to air traffic, becoming Senior Aerodrome Flight Information Service Officer. He held a similar role at Blackbushe Airport, before joining Gama Aviation in 1997 as Operations Manager and has embraced multi roles with them ever since.
BBGA Chair of Operations Group
In 2023 Paul succeeded Wally Epton as Chair of BBGA’s Operations Working Group, widening out the number of operators and operational service providers attending through the introduction of regional meets, as well as the London area gatherings, engaging topical guest speakers and securing regular attendance from the DfT, UK Border Force, and UK CAA.
Marwan Khalek, Group CEO, Gama Aviation :
“Steve Wright and I have known Paul since the early days at Fairoaks when we were still finding our feet as a fledgling aviation company back in 1983. Then, as now, he is a passionate advocate for the sector and tenacious champion of the industry, with an energy and enthusiasm that are truly remarkable. Over the years he has become a trusted advisor for operators and industry partners seeking thoughtful counsel and seasoned experience.
Beyond his expertise, what really sets Paul apart is his genuine passion and commitment to supporting people. Welcoming new talent, nurturing careers, and collaborating with industry leaders are all things he sees as central to his mission. He loves what he does, and that passion is unmistakably infectious.
To be recognised by his peers at the BBGA means a great deal to Paul. The Contribution to Industry Award perfectly reflects who he is: someone who inspires, delivers, and consistently acts with the best interests of his team, his company, and the industry at heart.”
Martin Hill - ATCO, FISO, ATC Examiner, CAA Aerodrome Accountable
Manager, ROCC Examiner :
“I’ve worked in aviation since I joined CAA/NATS in 1978 and I have never met a more honest, dedicated, determined individual. In the early days at Fairoaks, Paul was influenced by Robin Mackay (the legendary Aerodrome manager) and his commercial approach to running a successful general aviation airport, and Marwan Khalek’s unstoppable enthusiasm to keep the Gama fleet flying day and night.”
I was with Paul in the tower at Fairoaks when he learned he had secured a job at Blackbushe Tower. This gave him the responsibility to run the Air Traffic Service Unit there from the young age of 18. Paul enjoyed his work life so much he would often forget the time. I’d take calls from Tracey, his wife, inquiring when he’d be home. It’s a trait that’s never left him.”
Mathea Head, Sales Manager, myairops
“Joining Gama Aviation, initially with FlyerTech, I was new to aviation. Paul took me under his wing, going above and beyond to help me understand the industry, which ultimately supported my career progression to sales and marketing manager and today - into aviation software. A huge part of the knowledge and confidence I have today is a result of his guidance.
Paul is a brilliant mentor - patient, dedicated, and passionately committed to helping others progress. He’d stay at a STEM event right up until the packing of chairs (or until I’m dragging him out!), determined to inspire and speak to every student. I’m genuinely grateful for everything he’s taught me. Countless others will say the same.”
Thanks to Luxaviation for sponsoring this revered award .
