TRJet, Pratt & Whitney Canada Ratify Deal on 328 Turboprop Series Engine

Tuesday 12th July 2016

TRJet, an Ankara, Turkey-based aviation company, today announced an agreement with Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp. (P&WC) to use a new version of the world-renowned PW127 turboprop engine

to power TRJet's new TRP328™ turboprop aircraft. The versatility of the PW127 turboprop engine enables the TRP328 to offer increased maximum take-off weight without compromising performance.  The PW127 is part of the PW100 family of engines, which continues to be the most reliable, fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly and technologically advanced series of engines for the regional airline market.

The launch of the new engine program for the TRP328 will commence in late 2016 at P&WC's Longueuil, Quebec facility, kicking off a production schedule that culminates with the flight of the first TRP328 in 2019/20. The TRP328 and its sister design, the TRJ328™ aircraft, are being produced initially as part of the Turkish Regional Aircraft Project, which also includes plans for a larger, clean-sheet-design to begin concurrently with the 328 Series. Major milestones in production of the new larger aircraft are expected in time for Turkey's centennial celebration in 2023. As part of the project, P&WC, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp., will also explore the potential for developing a strategic sourcing program in Turkey.

"The collaboration between TRJet and an industry leader like P&WC is a major vote of confidence, not only in our ability to produce the best regional aircraft option on the market today, but also in our plans to become a recognized OEM within a short timeframe," said Cem Ugur, general manager of TRJet. "P&WC's renowned ability will undoubtedly contribute to the solid foundation upon which TRJet is being built."

The agreement between TRJet and P&WC follows the signing a memorandum of understanding in October 2015 regarding plans to use the PW306B engine for the TRJ328.

"P&WC's PW100 family of engines has played a major role in the growth of regional airlines around the world," said Edward Hoskins, vice president engineering & development, P&WC. "We are delighted to be working with TRJet in helping build the regional airline business in Turkey. We believe both the TRP328 and TRJ328 have tremendous potential."
