Thursday 10th September, 2009

Newquay Cornwall Airport is delighted by the announcement of bmibaby’s new three times weekly flights to East Midlands Airport. Services will operate for the summer season between 28 May and 12 September 2010 on Friday, Saturday and Sundays.

Kevin Pickup, Senior Marketing Officer, Newquay Cornwall Airport said: “We are very pleased to welcome back bmibaby for 2010. The news that the airline will be launching a regular summer route to East Midlands Airport shows our continued commitment to reducing passenger journey times to regions where we feel there is a strong demand for speedier travel. Our research has shown that this route will not only appeal to those looking to have a relaxing break in Cornwall but also for residents of the south west looking for an alternative short-break destination or to visit friends and family in the East Midlands.”

Crawford Rix, Managing Director, bmibaby said: “Over the summer months we expect to carry almost 11,000 passengers on the new service. By going on sale with our summer 2010 flight programme we are enabling customers to plan ahead and secure the best deals for next year.”

East Midlands Airport is located in the heart of England. Visitors to Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire can experience a vibrant cosmopolitan life in the thriving cities, with aspirational shopping and contemporary eating, alongside awe-inspiring architecture and world-class performing arts. Those who venture into the region’s glorious countryside will be rewarded with stunning landscapes, pretty villages steeped in history and quaint market towns such as Bakewell and Castleton. The breathtaking Peak District National Park is a definite ‘must-see’ together with a visit to Sherwood Forest to retrace the steps of Robin Hood.

Welcoming the announcement, Cornwall Council Cabinet Member, Cllr Carolyn Rule said: “This is excellent news for Newquay Cornwall Airport and we’re delighted that bmibaby is complementing its Manchester route with these new flights to East Midlands Airport. East Midlands serves the important economic centres of Nottingham, Leicester and Derby making this a very positive step for business and leisure travellers alike.”

bmibaby is the only airline to operate flights between Newquay and East Midlands Airport. Fares on the route start from just £18.99 one way including taxes and charges and are bookable online now at www.bmibaby.com.
