New Executive Lounge for Newquay Cornwall Airport
Wednesday 15th July, 2009
A new executive lounge for business passengers using Newquay Cornwall Airport was officially inaugurated by the leader of Cornwall Council, Alec Robertson, on Wednesday, 08 July.
Constructed by Mansell Construction Services, the lounge is open to all passengers with business tickets, providing comfortable seating in a relaxed atmosphere, together with state-of-the-art work stations and broadband access. Passengers also benefit from a range of hot and cold drinks and light refreshments and are able to enjoy views across the runway.
“I am delighted to officially open this wonderful new facility for business passengers using Newquay Cornwall Airport,” said Alex Robertson. “This development marks another important stage in our plans to create a world-class airport in Cornwall and I’m sure the lounge will be very well patronised.”
Newquay Cornwall Airport was ranked as the fastest growing airport in the UK, during the financial year 2008-2009 and is forecast to see growth this year despite the difficult economic climate, with a route network of 19 destinations, operated by eight airlines. The opening of the new executive lounge marks the completion of the second stage of development at the airport and is part of continuing plans to increase the capacity of the terminal to meet a throughput of 700,000 passengers a year.
Significant development at the airport has been ongoing for the past two years and Newquay Cornwall Airport now boasts some of the most modern airfield facilities in the country, having already benefited from the construction of a new air traffic control tower, new fire station and appliances, resurfacing of the entire runway, new approach and airfield lighting and more than seven miles of perimeter fencing. A new arrival’s hall was completed last summer and with the opening of the new executive lounge, passengers will see a significant improvement at the airport.
Welcoming the opening of the new facility, Chris Cain, Airport Project Director, added: “We are delighted to now offer our passengers at Newquay Cornwall Airport the opportunity to relax in this spacious new executive lounge. This demonstrates the Council’s continued commitment to providing an enhanced passenger experience throughout the terminal for the business traveller.”
