Fly to Sion on a scheduled service, exclusively with Snowjet

Thursday 25th November, 2010

In a recent shortlist of the world’s most stunning airport approaches, Switzerland's Sion airport took the number one spot for its dramatic approach over the Rhône valley and the surrounding Alps. The list, compiled by Adam Twidell, an experienced pilot, named the world’s top ten most awe-inspiring approaches and reminded travellers that: “... a journey by air can be a life-enhancing experience in itself.”

This sentiment is echoed by David Lacy, Snowjet’s Managing Director: “The scenery really is breathtaking,” he confirms. “We love operating the Sion route and never get bored of the amazing Swiss Alpine backdrop.

“Until recently, Sion Airport was the exclusive bastion of the A-list rich and famous, having only been accessible by private jet,” explains David. “Even now, it’s exclusively Snowjet passengers who get this spectacular experience without the spectacular price tag! We started our Stansted – Sion service for the 09/10 winter ski season, providing the only scheduled services to Sion from anywhere in the world.

“Snowjet’s returning passengers love the time-saving benefits afforded by flying direct to Sion,” continues David. “I’m sure this season’s increased capacity on the route and greater flexibility, will appeal to passengers who haven’t yet experienced the advantages of flying direct to this exclusive and efficient Alpine airport.”

Flying direct to Sion, located in the popular Swiss Valais Region, is the fastest route to some of Switzerland’s top ski resorts, including Zermatt, Verbier, Saas Fee, Crans Montana, Nendaz and Veysonnaz. For non-skiers, the canton of Valais has wonderful winter weather, a renowned vineyard and many spa hotels.

Snowjet’s timetable for the winter 2010/2011 ski season, highlights increased frequency on the Stansted-Sion route - up to three times weekly from 18 February – with a later Sunday return flight enabling weekend or short ski breaks.

“Our increased frequency, with departures on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during peak season, makes skiing weekends a very real option,” says David Lacy. “And with Snowjet’s convenient flight times too, skiers can benefit from a full two and a half days skiing - the ideal long-weekend, winter getaway.”

Between 18 February and 08 April, Snowjet’s schedule includes flights on Fridays, departing Stansted at 0900 and arriving in Sion at midday. As Snowjet is the only scheduled service operating into Sion, transit through the airport is fast, meaning skiers can enjoy the whole of Friday afternoon on the slopes. Similarly, with Sion Airport’s 30 minute check-in time and the nearest resort just a 20-minute transfer away, skiers can spend all day Sunday on the slopes, before returning on the 1700 flight.

Reservations for ski flights to Sion can be made online at www.snowjet.co.uk with lead in fares starting from just £79, one way, including taxes.

The Stansted-Sion flights complement Snowjet’s established routes to Chambery ski airport in the French Alps from Gatwick, Stansted and Bristol. Snowjet’s winter sale starts on Monday, with a £49 fare available on all Snowjet’s Chambery flights booked between between 10am on Monday 29th November and 5pm on Friday 3rd December, for travel between 08 January to 30 January 2011. The fare is for one-way travel and includes taxes.

£79 lead in fare is one way, including taxes.

1700 Sunday departures from Sion to Stansted are available from 27 Feb to 10 Apr 2011.

Editor’s Notes:

Snowjet was established in 2007 to cater for the independent skier and today offers flights to Chambery airport in the French Alps and to Sion airport in the Swiss Alps.

In 2009 Snowjet was purchased and is now wholly owned, by Titan Airways, one of the UK’s most successful and prestigious charter airlines. The backing of one of the most financially secure airlines in the UK has already enabled Snowjet to expand its ski flight operation. Last winter the airline successfully launched the only scheduled service from the UK to Sion Airport. And for winter 10/11, due to popular demand, the airline has increased the frequency of its Sion flights to three times a week during peak season.
