Airline Services Components Ltd, headquartered at Manchester and London Gatwick raised an impressive £1,575 for the Parkinson’s Disease Society on Friday 15th May when it organised a full 90 minutes charity football match for airline and aerospace clients at Derby County Football Club’s Pride Park Stadium as an ASC representative team took on an invitation XI. Officials were provided by Derby County FC.
“It’s not every day you get to play in a Premiership standard Stadium. The age of the players taking part ranged from 16 to 49 years old and it was a very competitive game which was played with great enthusiasm and spirit. All in all, it proved to be a successful event, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part and more importantly, we managed to raise an impressive amount for this year’s charity,” said Chris Hooley, Managing Director of Airline Services Components who himself scored two of the goals for the victorious ASC team as they ran out 6-2 winners. Ritchie Woods from ASC managed the home team and ASL CEO, Byan Bodek, managed the visitors’ team which included representatives from bmi Engineering; Monarch Engineering; Messier Bugatti; Virgin Atlantic; Bombardier; Sky Wheels; Curtis Wright, Kemfast, BCT and Air Foil Technologies Inc. Ritchie Woods declared Scott Whittlestone, Engineering Director of BCT as the man of the match.
Airline Services Components Ltd sold some 250 tickets to friends and families who turned out to support the two teams. A small fee was collected from each of the players and donations were also received from Curtiss Wright and Skywheels towards the total. A cheque will be presented to the charity in the coming weeks.
This is the second consecutive year that ASC has arranged this grand sporting extravaganza for a good cause. Last year it raised £1,600 for Cancer Research. “It is a fixture that we all look forward to,” said Chris – a keen Derby County FC supporter, “Even if the more senior players amongst us ache for days afterwards.”
