Charity Midnight Run takes off from London Oxford Airport

Monday 29th August 2016

Following British Olympic success, London Oxford Airport is hoping Team GB's achievements will inspire all budding runners to join them on the runway for its first ever Midnight Runway Run. A lively warm up, and powerful runway floodlights will provide the atmospheric backdrop for the start of the run, which will begin at 11pm on 16th September.

Held in aid of Cancer Research UK and supported by the Reuben Foundation, the airport is urging employees, their friends, family, and as many local people as possible to get together for this unique opportunity to support a seriously good cause. Individuals and teams of people of all ages, fitness levels and from all walks of life are encouraged to take part. The race will comprise two distances, 5k and 10k, with the 10k race involving four runway lengths and the 5k just two. Trophies will be awarded to the fastest man and woman and all participants will receive a medal.

Kieran Meikle, Airport Operations Manager comments: "With the full backing of the Reuben Foundation and our Board, we are very excited to be hosting our first ever Runway Run in aid of Cancer Research UK.  It's an event that should appeal to runners of all abilities and has the added bonus of generating cash for an incredibly important charity. Packed full of atmosphere, this is one not to miss."

Cancer causes more than one in every four deaths in the UK. Cancer Research UK wants to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured and needs the help of people in and around Oxford to help save many more lives.

Sign up today to secure your place by visiting www.midnightrunwayrun.co.uk. Entry is just £35 per person. Minimum age is 13 years old. Places are strictly limited.

The Reuben Foundation:

Since its creation in 2002, the Reuben Foundation has been pursuing its goal of making essential contributions in three core areas: Education, Healthcare and the Community, both in the UK and worldwide.

The Reuben Foundation have a number of established funding initiatives with charitable organisations where our involvement doesn't stop with our financial contribution, but where we work together in creating specific programmes that best meet the needs of those we are trying to support. Our various funding projects include the creation of a new cancer imaging centre at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, providing a state-of-the-art specialist medical unit designed for the fast, thorough and accurate diagnosis of suspected cancers and other conditions.

The Reuben Foundation also launched the Reuben Scholarship Programme in partnership with the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge as well as ARK schools, to assist bright students from disadvantaged backgrounds, for whom financial support is most needed, both to continue their education and see that attending university is an option very much open to them.

London Oxford Airportis wholly owned by the Reuben Brothers. Their investment activities span private equity, as well as real estate ownership and development.  Businesses include; data centres, race courses, media, public houses, hotels, mining, shipping and metal storage.  At the end of February 2012 the Reubens purchased the London Heliport at London Battersea, the UK's only CAA licensed heliport.  The Heliport is a 22-minute helicopter ride from London Oxford Airport.  London Oxford Airport has been the fastest growing airport for private business aviation in the United Kingdom over the last five years and aspires to be recognised as a new option for commercial airline services within the Thames Valley region, North West of London.
