Satcom Direct, the leading provider of satellite voice and broadband data solutions for flight deck and cabin communications is supporting the recent opening of its first Australian office with a debut presence at this year's AVALON: Australia's International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition, booth number 1H20.

The Florida, US-headquartered company, opened its new Melbourne office in January 2015 as part of its strategic expansion plans to create a global network of offices. The latest addition to its 13 strong network is headed up by New Zealander, Nathan Andrews, business development manager, who takes on the role having worked for four years with the international team at Satcom Direct's UK-base, located at TAG Farnborough Airport, UK.

Andrews and his team will extend the company's footprint across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific rim providing new and existing customers from the military, defence, government and business aviation sectors with the full range of Satcom Direct products, technical services training, support and Satcom system consultation for pilots, cabin crew, flight operations staff, OEMs, completion centres and maintenance teams.

"As a business, we focus on providing extensive support for our customers which means we aim to be where they are. We have a local approach for our global service, and the opening of our office in Melbourne is a strategic move supporting our mission to provide on-the-ground solutions to our customers, wherever they are in the world," said Andrews. "We are demonstrating our commitment to the region by attending Avalon, and we've also joined the Australian Business Aviation Association," he continued. Melbourne was selected for the Australian base owing to its position as a hub for business aviation operations in Australia.

Satcom Direct, which already has a number of customers in the region, will use its presence at Avalon to demonstrate its Satcom Direct Router, in addition to its latest product range including connectivity solution GlobalVT. This latest innovation revolutionises connectivity in the air as it allows smartphone users to use voice and text functionality from their own personal smartphone number during flight at any altitude, anywhere in the world. The new service, available globally, is offered to clients under a monthly subscription model and is anticipated to be very popular in the ANZAC region.
