  • Flying Colours Corp ramps up prep for Singapore facility

Following the announcement at the Singapore Airshow that Flying Colours Corp. is to deliver interior refurbishment and reconfiguration services at Bombardier's new Singapore Service Centre at Seletar, the Canadian based completions, maintenance and interiors company is ramping up preparations for setting up its new facility. With a significant investment Flying Colours Corp. plans to replicate its full range of services to Bombardier clients through its partnership at the new centre.

From the new facility Flying Colours Corp. will undertake a full range of interiors services including preliminary interior inspections, interior removals and installation, interior repair work, interior modification work and interior refurbishment work on Chinese registered Bombardier aircraft, in addition to other Bombardier aircraft from across the Asian market including those based in India, Malaysia, Indonesia, and as far afield as Australia. The interiors full service offering will complement Bombardier's comprehensive line and heavy maintenance offering at the same facility. With the upholstery, reinstallation, wood veneer, and finishing workshops located on the second floor of the facility the new service centre is already open for business and Flying Colours refurbishments are already underway.

It is anticipated that Flying Colours Corp Asia PTE. Ltd. will be fully operational by the third quarter of 2014. Flying Colours Corp. has already laid out plans to recruit local skilled workers through job advertisements and joint recruiting activity with Bombardier's HR staff in Singapore.  The new workforce will be supported by a qualified set of employees from Flying Colours Corp. who will train new recruits in the required techniques, including interior assembly/installation, cabinet makers, cabinet refinishing, and upholstery.

Specific skilled workers from the Peterborough facility will be temporarily based in Singapore to share the knowledge needed to complete each project as it comes online, whilst Flying Colours Corp. also plans to build on the knowledge set with supplemental training taking place at the Peterborough site.  On selection local candidates will travel to the Canadian facility where they will undergo one to two month training sessions in each specific area. Through on-the-job training and specific aircraft project led work it is expected they will become proficient in all elements of the interior skills portfolio currently provided by Flying Colours. The Canadian company will also look to base administration and support staff at the Singapore facility in the future.

"Our long term vision is to have a majority national work force operating at the Singapore facility. Right now the skills required to deliver the quality expected for Bombardier aircraft are rare hence our intention to have our own team share their skill-sets with our newly recruited local team," said Sean Gillespie VP, Flying Colours Corp.

"We are very excited about the new facility and the development plans. There are limited facilities in the region capable of refurbishing Challenger, Global or Learjet aircraft so this is a great opportunity to strengthen our presence and build on our existing relationship with Bombardier."

Investment closer to home too.

Whilst the Singapore facility comes on line privately owned Flying Colours Corp. is also continuing to invest in facilities closer to home. April sees the opening of Phase one, of a three phase development project, when a brand new purpose built 20,000 sq.ft hangar expansion is inaugurated at its Peterborough, Ontario facility.  April also sees the beginning of work to upgrade the existing Peterborough paint facility to provide space for larger aircraft. Altogether these first two phases represent an investment of over CAD$3.25 million.

"We are continually upgrading our services and equipment to meet the client demand and make sure we deliver our services on time and to the highest quality. We see investment in our existing facilities as important as opening up new projects internationally as it ensures we can maintain the standards that our clients have come to expect from us," continues Gillespie about the ongoing plans.

Flying Colours Corp. will be exhibiting at the ABACE event on H606 with a full sales and design team, and will be sponsoring a number of events through the show.
